About Angala Trust: Empowering Women and Youth

Angala Trust (meaning “Courtyard”) is a registered charitable trust established in 2015 by Ms. Jyothi Hitnal. Born from a deep commitment to social justice, our mission is to drive positive change by improving the education and health outcomes of women and youth in the Hyderabad-Karnataka (HYKA) region of Karnataka, India.

We work in an area grappling with complex challenges, including high rates of poverty, illiteracy, child marriage, and gender-based violence. Drawing on firsthand experience, Angala Trust champions the cause of the most socially and economically marginalized communities.

💡 Our Core Pillars of Work

Angala Trust works on the ground through three strategic pillars to deliver comprehensive empowerment:

Scholarship and Educational Support

We run a crucial scholarship program that provides financial aid and mentorship, primarily for vulnerable girls to pursue higher education. This initiative directly combats school dropouts and is a vital tool in preventing child marriage, empowering the next generation with social mobility and independence.

Training and Awareness Building

We conduct impactful programs focused on leadership development, gender equality, reproductive health and rights. We organize awareness campaigns to educate communities on critical issues like child marriage, gender-based violence, and access to healthcare.

Campaigns to Claim Entitlements

We actively advocate for the rights of marginalized women and girls, helping them navigate bureaucratic systems to access government schemes, social security benefits, and healthcare services. These campaigns are essential for reducing systemic inequality and promoting social inclusion.

🎯 Our Vision and Focus

Our ultimate goal is to break the cycles of poverty and marginalization, ensuring that young girls and women can access their rights and lead secure, independent lives.

We Serve the Most Vulnerable

We prioritize support for the following groups, who face intersectional discrimination:

  • Young and adolescent girls from Devadasi families.

  • School dropout girls from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) households.

  • Girls and youth from economically disadvantaged households.

The inclusion and mainstreaming of the Devadasi community, which numbers approximately 6,000 members in Koppal District, is integral to every project we undertake.
